Dyfal Donc a Dyr y Garreg

tapping persistently breaks the stone

“Dyfal Donc a Dyr y Garreg” is a Welsh proverb that translates “Tapping persistently breaks the stone.”

Persistence is firm, even obstinate, continuance in a course of action in spite of difficulty or opposition, continuing steadfastly toward one’s goal. The habit of persistence, the personality trait of dogged determination, is key to success in any endeavor. We all get discouraged, we all have times when motivation wanes BUT if we have cultivated tenacity, nurtured a resolute nature, and refined our resilience, we will find the resolve and the momentum to continue onward to victory, powering our way over, around or through obstacles.

Where are you meaningfully giving up? Is there some important area of your life where you have not given your all? Something significant where you’ve settled for less than you were capable?

Closing Quotes:

“Nothing in the world can take the place of Persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan “Press On” has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race.” – John Calvin Coolidge Jr; 30th President, born on the 4th of July, 1872-1933

“Patience, persistence and perspiration make an unbeatable combination for success.” – Napoleon Hill, ‘Think and Grow Rich’, 1883-1970

“Success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day in and day out.” – Robert Leo Collier, ‘Secret of the Ages’ and ‘Riches within Your Reach’ (quoted by Rhonda Byrne in ‘The Secret’), 1885-1950

As always, I share what I most want and need to learn. – Nathan S. Collier
