A thought virus is any thought, any point of view, any emotion that does not serve you, strengthen you, energize you.

When you sense a thought virus, you must eradicate it immediately, just like you would pull any weed, destroy any disease causing pathogen. Thought viruses come in many forms; some lurk deep within from your early years. Others come from positivity challenged co-workers or doom and gloom acquaintances or from sensationalist, exploitive media attempting to make a profit off irrational fears.

Irregardless of the source, thought viruses sap your strength. One of the best ways to cure yourself of a thought virus is cognitive: reframe it, tear it apart, expose its usually illogical basis. Furthermore, even if the thought virus contains a gem of truth, the key is “Does it serve you? Strengthen you?” Example: No matter how true; while you are walking a tightrope, it is no time to be thinking about the odds of falling!

You may be challenged to control the thoughts that come to mind but you can control the thoughts that stay in mind (meditation is an excellent thought training technique that increases focus and calms the mind).

At times I find myself putting off something, usually because I have associated something negative with it. It is within my power to find a positive about the task or situation and choose to dwell upon that. I generally find that my energy levels rise and the task or situation is less daunting than the fear based thought virus originally portrayed.

Closing Quote:

“You are not responsible for the programming you picked up in childhood. However, as an adult, you are 100% responsible for fixing it. When you blame others you give up your power to change.”
