exceed expectations

Spoiler Alert!

I’m not perfect.

Not much of a surprise, was it? We all know that nobody is perfect yet we often spend an inordinate amount of time trying to convince the world that we are better than we really are. Too many of us live our lives in fear of being anything less than perfect and this very desire can at times sabotage us, hold us back, drain or misallocate our energy.

Please understand: I am all for ambition, for personal, professional, and spiritual growth, for people investing energy into improving every day, every moment; becoming the best they can be. At the same time there is a vital balance point: We must never think of ourselves as broken in any way or that there is anything “wrong” with us. We must always and quickly release any thoughts or beliefs of lack or scarcity or weakness or shortcomings or emptiness or limits. Tall order, you might say. Perhaps. But to an incredible extent we create our world, our relationships, and our character with our beliefs.

We all have unspoken rules, often subconscious expectations about the way life is, what we are capable of, what is reasonable to expect. But perhaps there is something to be said for having High Expectations, even slightly unreasonable one’s at that. After all, nothing ventured, nothing gained and much progress is due to unreasonable people, stubbornly unwilling to except the status quo.
